Finding a job in the social justice/environmental sector

Many young people now want to work for an organisation or company which works on issues of social or environmental justice. Competition can be fierce and it is a good idea to look at volunteering or work experience opportunties to build up a good CV.

There are a range of good websites which list vacancies across the UK:

Paid jobs at the Green Party are rare but it is worth checking the job page now and again to see what comes up: http://www.greenparty.org.uk/jobs

We will also list any paid opportunities which may interest Young Greens in particular below.

STUDENTS! (Current students, and those graduating this summer 2007)

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A GOOD WAY TO SPEND SUMMER 2007? FUN, ETHICAL AND HELPING TO WORK FOR A GREEN FUTURE?

We are looking for ‘(expenses-only) paid’ student workers to campaign/leaflet/door-knock in Norwich this June through to September (and each succeeding summer, through to the next General Election).

Come to this key Green target area, and help us break through further!

Norwich South is one the national party target constituencies. Student help this summer will enable us to build up our vote ahead of the next
General Election and increase the number of council wards in the constituency in which we are actively working. We currently hold nine seats on Norwich City Council and have the potential to make further gains and become the second party at this year’s local elections (see overleaf for details).

The ‘job’: students (current, and new grads, from UEA and from across the country) to ‘work’ for between 1 and 12 weeks in Norwich, door-knocking and leafleting, doing paperwork, and doing other miscellaneous Green tasks. You will be paid your travel expenses (if needed), plus £5 a day living expenses, for about 5 days a week worth of work, such work preferably to take place primarily at weekends and during weekday evenings. You will also be provided with free accommodation and meals if necessary. (If it becomes impossible to provide you with meals, then your daily expenses allowance will be increased to £10.)

INTERESTED?

Talk to Councillor Rupert Read (07946 459066) and/or Tom Dylan : 01603 631096 or 07810 073428 or send a letter of application to Norwich Green Party c/o 27 Clarendon Road, Norwich, NR2 2PN or mailto:help@norwichgreenparty.org. Expressions of interest welcome from now on (and throughout the spring/summer).

Norwich South is one of three national party target Westminster constituencies, alongside Brighton Pavilion and Lewisham Deptford.
