Campaigns for your school/college
Why not...
- Get your school/college to recycle more - see here for details.
- Persuade your canteen to go fairtrade. This means offering fairly traded tea, coffee, chocolate, biscuits and a whole range of other products.these may be a little more expensive but at least you know that poor people on the other side of the world won't have been expolited for your cuppa.
- Boycottcompanies who are giving people in poor countries a bad deal like Nestle and Coca Cola
- Join the Vote at 16 campaign and ask your Citizenship teacher to have a debate in class.
- Promote ethical fashion - see our ethical fashion fact sheet for more info. Get your art and textiles teachers onside and you could have an ethical fashion show! Visit your local charity shop to make a cool "vintage" look with old clothes and accessories and make your own items with beads, buttons, and left-over pieces of fabric.
- Walk to school day! Get your fellow students who get dropped off by drive in to walk, cycle or take the bus for a change! There is more air pollution inside a car than outside it so as long as they er careful crossing the road, it is healthier all round to walk!
- Organise a school debate on a topical issue. You need to get a group of people to argue for and against the following statements and make sure the event is well-publicised: "Building more nuclear power stations is only the way to supply the UK's energy needs", "It is acceptable to imprison people without a trial if the government suspects they are terrorists" or "The United Nations is always going to be biased against the interest of poor countries because the richest countries in the world have the final say". Do your research so you have good arguments ready for anything the opposing side throws at you!
