Young Greens produce their documents in open source software as much as possible.
The basic idea behind open source is very simple: Programmers can read, redistribute, and modify the source code for software, allowing continuous evolution. Users improve it, adapt it, and fix bugs. At a speed impossible with conventional software development.
At head office we run our computers on Linux: Linux is a free open-source operating system based on Unix. Linux was originally created by Linus Torvalds with the assistance of developers from around the globe. The package we use is called Suse, but we like Ubuntu just as much. This in itself contains nearly all the software we need to function as a group.
Whether you use linux or windows you can still use open source software. For instance we use Mozilla Firefox instead of internet explorer. All our letters, presentations, spreadsheets, and databases are created in Open Office our publications in Scribus (as it is not so easy to find on the site, the windows version can be downloaded here) and gimp (GNU image manipulation program) and our email is in Thunderbird.
