Combat Xenophobia

First things first...

What is Xenophobia?

Xenophobia is generally understood as an unreasonable fear or hatred of foreigners or strangers or of that which is foreign or strange. This can take the form of prejudice, racism or discrimination.

To fight Xenophobia we need "Unity in Diversity"

"Unity in Diversity" is a campaign against xenophobia, run in association with the Federation of Young European Greens (FYEG). Through this campaign, the Young Greens wants to tackle various topics, such as racism, religious discrimination, discrimination against ethnical or national minorities, Islamophobia, Anti-Semitism, homophobia and migrants / refugees rights.

Unity in Diversity" is focused on 3 distinct, but key issues:

Local activism - the campaign primarily aims to activate local young green groups, environmental organisations or any type on youth NGOs to take a visible stand against particular manifestations of xenophobia, that are common in their local environment. The campaign will offer support in organising local actions, by offering both ideas for such activities and promotional materials that can be used

Information - disseminating information is at the heart of this campaign. By using on-line tools such as this website and e-lists, as well as classical tools, such as leaflets and publications, "Unity in Diversity" is meant to raise awareness on xenophobic practices across Europe.

Education - FYEG believes that a basic step in fighting xenophobia is educating young people to identify it, to point it out as being wrong and eventually to eradicate it. This is why, within this campaign, several European youth exchanges, seminars, conferences and study sessions will take place.

How to get involved

If you want to join the campaign, here are some ideas on what you can do:

  • - start a working group on xenophobia within your local group and arrange some local actions on the topic. You should always contact the campaign team for input and support on your work.
  • - write an article on any topic related to the campaign and send it to us. We will publish it on the website and your voice will be heard!
  • - join one of the European youth events - participating in a FYEG seminar is more a memorable experience, apart from being an educational gain.
  • - send us a personal story related to xenophobia. We will publish it, in order to offer examples of discriminatory practices around Europe
  • - subscribe and get active on the campaigns e-list
  • - contact the campaign team any time you have new ideas, comments or complaints. Let's make a better campaign together!
